National Center for Civil and Human Rights Mural
Joseph McKinney Studios collaborated with the National Center for Civil and Human Rights on Truth and Transformation, a public art project that examines the history of forced labor connected to the Bellwood Quarry and the Chattahoochee Brick Company site in Atlanta.
The project uses visual storytelling to bring attention to narratives that have long been hidden or overlooked, centering memory, labor, and the enduring impact of systemic injustice on Black communities. Through research-driven imagery and material presence, the work invites viewers to reflect on how history is remembered, who is acknowledged, and how truth shapes collective understanding.
Truth and Transformation positions public art as a space for reflection and accountability, connecting past and present while encouraging dialogue about justice, remembrance, and healing.
